Agreement and eligibility
These terms apply when you use the Brine app, website and related services (together, “Brine”). By creating an account or using Brine, you agree to them and to our privacy policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Brine.
You must be an adult to create an account. Parents and carers can add children to their household, but children can’t have their own accounts.
What Brine provides
Brine plans a household’s dinners, writes recipes around the household and its kitchen, builds a shopping list, guides cooking step by step and remembers how dinners went. You can speak or type to it, and save recipes you find elsewhere.
Brine will change as it develops. We may add, remove or adjust features, recipes, AI models, limits or availability. We’ll try not to make changes that needlessly harm a paying household’s access.
Accounts and households
- Keep your sign-in secure. You’re responsible for activity in your account.
- A household shares one plan, shopping list, kitchen and subscription. People you invite can see and change them.
- Don’t share sign-in codes, impersonate someone, or create accounts to get around a restriction. We may ask you to confirm you control an account before changing or deleting it.
Your content
You own what you add to Brine: household details, notes, requests, feedback and recipes you save (“your content”). You give Brine a limited, worldwide licence to store, copy, transmit and process your content only as needed to run, secure, support and improve Brine. The licence ends when the content is deleted, except for backups, anonymous information and records we must keep by law.
Only save recipes from elsewhere for your own household’s use. If you leave “Share recipes we cook” on, you let us offer recipes Brine wrote for you to other households, as the privacy policy explains.
AI recipes and food safety
Brine’s recipes, plans and shopping lists are written by AI. They are usually right, but they can contain mistakes, including wrong amounts, timings, temperatures or ingredients.
- Check for allergens yourself. Brine tries to leave out what your household can’t eat, but it can’t read product labels or check for cross-contamination. Always read the label.
- Cook food safely and check it’s cooked through, whatever a recipe says.
- Brine gives cooking ideas. It is not medical, dietary or nutrition advice.
You remain responsible for what you cook and serve.
Fair use
Each household can get up to 30 new recipes a week, topped up through the week. Recipes you already have, and recipes you add to a night yourself, don’t count. Each recipe you save from elsewhere counts as one.
App Store billing
Brine needs a subscription, bought through the App Store and charged to your Apple account. The App Store shows the price, billing period and any free trial before you confirm. One subscription covers the whole household.
New subscribers may get a free trial; the App Store shows whether you can get one. A trial becomes a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before.
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel in your Apple account’s subscription settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it doesn’t end the current period early. Deleting the app or your Brine account doesn’t cancel a subscription. Apple handles billing disputes and refunds under its own rules.
We may change future prices or plans. Apple will ask for any consent a price change needs. Nothing here limits your consumer rights.
Acceptable use
You must not:
- Use Brine unlawfully or to harm, threaten or deceive anyone.
- Upload malware, probe security, overload Brine, or get around its limits or access controls.
- Scrape Brine or access it by automated means where that isn’t expressly allowed.
- Reverse engineer Brine, except where the law gives you a right that can’t be waived.
- Infringe someone else’s intellectual property, privacy or other rights.
Intellectual property
Brine, including its software, design, brand and original content, belongs to Brine or its licensors. These terms give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use it for its intended purpose.
Feedback and ideas are welcome. If you send them, you let us use them without payment or any obligation. This doesn’t transfer ownership of your content.
Apple and other providers
Brine relies on other companies for sign-in, hosting, AI and purchases. The privacy policy names them and explains their roles.
If you download Brine from the App Store, Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple isn’t responsible for running or supporting Brine, except as that agreement or the law requires.
Availability
We aim to keep Brine available and reliable, but it may be interrupted by maintenance, provider failures, security work or events outside our control. We can’t promise uninterrupted access.
If we ever close Brine, we’ll give notice where reasonably possible, especially if it affects paid access or your ability to download your data.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using Brine and delete your account at any time in Profile, then Account. Cancel your subscription with Apple as well.
We may restrict or suspend access when reasonably necessary to protect Brine or someone else, comply with law, or respond to a serious or repeated breach of these terms. Where appropriate, we’ll explain why and give you a chance to put it right.
Warranties and liability
As far as the law allows, Brine is provided “as is” and “as available”, and we disclaim implied warranties that can lawfully be disclaimed.
As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost data, profit or opportunity. Where liability can’t be excluded, our total liability for a claim won’t exceed what you paid for Brine in the 12 months before it arose.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits a right, remedy or liability that consumer law doesn’t allow us to exclude, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms as Brine or the law changes. We’ll update the date above and tell you in the app if a change needs your attention. If you keep using Brine after a change takes effect, the new terms apply, unless the law requires another form of consent.
If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. Questions can be sent to me@andylower.com.
